Bemer Mat Review

Overview for the Bemer Mat

Bemer Group has developed a product line that’s backed by big fitness guru names, like Brooke Burke.

This is why it’s often credited with popularizing the PEMF niche.

The Bemer mat is the diva of the company’s lineup.

It is geared toward the mindset of better health equals a better life. What is it? What does is do?

All your questions will be answered in this comprehensive review of the Bemer mat.

Start With The Basics

All cells within the human body have an electromagnetic component.

They each  have a frequency and resonance to function properly.

The electrical signals from vital cellular components, such as oxygen, hydrogen and carbon, are carried by the circulatory system.

Scientific theories exist that environmental exposures, such as from foodstuffs, stressors, and an array of electromagnetic energy from electronic devices, throw this vital electrical component of cells off kilter.

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) is a therapeutic option to address these microcellular issues.

Bemer is a provider for the technology through their physical vascular therapy products.

The Bemer mat stimulates muscle cells with specific pulses, frequencies and sequences to improve the blood’s supply and disposal processes.

We will examine the Bemer mat up close and personal, so that you will have everything that you need to know to determine if it’s the best piece of equipment for your needs.

What products are included in this review?

This review details two Bemer therapy products: the Bemer Pro and the Bemer Classic Mat.

These models were previously known as just the Bemer 3000.

They are now two products and the Bemer Pro is Bemer’s flagship and best-selling product.

Who Is the Bemer Group?

Created in 1990, the Bemer Life Group was one of the first to offer commercial PEMF therapy for home use.

It’s one of the most established and reputable brands in the field of PEMF.

Their marketing prowess is largely responsible for PEMF becoming a viral sensation online.

This is a company with their finger on the consumer pulse. As a result, they have gained a large market share.

However, other PEMF products with an eye on scientific data and delivery are quickly taking the market by storm.

The Liechtenstein-based company’s name stands for:

B – bio

E – electric

M – magnetic

E – energy

R – regulation

Where Can Bemer Products Be Purchased?

Bemer Group sells direct to consumers through their own website.

They also engage in multi-level marketing to produce the product for third parties to distribute, by selling either online and/or at their own brick and mortar locations.

You can also occasionally find individual distribution of new and used Bemer products at sites, like eBay and Amazon.

When considering a vendor to purchase any product from, we always recommend considering avenues that offer you the best buyer protections.

Distinguishing Between Bemer PRO & Bemer Classic

Watch our handy video review to see the operation of both models for yourself.

The mat controller and accessories are the only notable differences between the Pro and Classic models.

The Pro Set has more PEMF applicators and is made of an Alcantara composite to better guard against stains and bolster durability.

Otherwise, the two models look and function alike.

Why Bemer Therapy?

Bemer is the descriptor of the specific type of PEMF therapy that this brand delivers.

It is unique to Bemer Group. It details the specific therapeutic configuration delivered by the Bemer PEMF controller and apparatus.

Bemer therapy is often used synonymously with descriptors, like vascular therapy and micro-circulation therapy because of its ability to provide pain relief from circulatory issues and circulation improvement benefits.

Testimonials for both the Pro and Classic Bemer kits are a mixed bag of support and debunking.

Of course, like all therapeutic products, potential consumers need to recognize that existing reviews can be skewed by the reviewer’s own unreasonable expectations or paid insider support for positive reviews.

We prefer to listen to the science and take the rest with a grain of salt.

What Does the Research Say About Bemer?

Bemer’s website includes several accolades for their research and patents.

Several leading experts have attested to or recommended their product based on scientific studies.

Bemer is careful to point out that “individual results may vary” and that the statements have not been evaluated by the FDA.

However, Bemer Group’s therapeutic statements have considerable research behind the scenes.

While some of it  has yielded positive results, other research remains inconclusive or demonstrates ineffectiveness.

PubMed, for example, has collected a large body of studies and reports to suggest that there is no evidence that Bemer’s patented technology is more or less effective than other PEMF models.

Why?

The cumulative of research suggests 1-30 Hz frequencies and 1-10 Gauss intensities are most effective within therapeutic PEMF.

Bemer’s products respectively measure 10 Hz or 33 Hz and 0.035 – 0.35 Gauss.

Other PEMF therapy mats, such as the HealthyLine Platinum Series, align with positive PEMF research findings.

In addition, unlike Bemer, they allow for more customized delivery.

Vasomotion Micro-Circulation

In researching PEMF, there is one term that often accompanies the therapy – vasomotion.

Bemer’s marketing usually targets the point that no one does vasomotion/vascular therapy better than they do.

It is, therefore, critical to understand what vasomotion is, in conjunction to Bemer’s PEMF models.

Also known as angiokinesis and vasomotion, it is the concept of micro-circulation within arteries and veins.

It’s that microscopic long-distance sprint that blood makes in going from major arteries and veins to the most distant tiny ones, such as to those at the tips of the fingers and toes.

It is important to remember that the vasomotion concept which Bemer markets, is one of their most distinguishing features.

The PubMed study mentioned above, however, has possibly contradicted Bemer’s claims.

In the publication, it’s obvious to assume that Bemer PEMF is the device being tested due to the specified configuration.

However, you must pay for the full text to actually confirm these details.

In both low and high-doses of pulses locally applied to the foot, the tested device was found to only yield minuscule temperature drops.

They further reported that micro-circulation actually decreased with this particular device.

Other literature reviews, however, yield more positive findings for Bemer.

PEMF was found in many of these studies to improve circulation and micro-circulation.

These studies involved both Bemer and non-Bemer products.

A study performed by Bemer’s inventor, Dr. Klopp, of course, supports Bemer’s vasomotion claims.

The bottom line is that consumers must do their own due diligence in vetting claims.

It is important to pay cautious attention to the source and independence of the providers.

In our opinion, Dr. Klopp’s research is too close to home for us to place full confidence.

The other independent research has both favorable and unfavorable outcomes to consider.

Didn’t NASA Study PEMF?

Yes. It’s often hailed as the NASA PEMF study.

The independent study found positive outcomes for PEMF therapy using square wave 10Hz/10-200 mGauss, and it was overseen by NASA.

While almost none of the commercially available PEMF devices on the market today are providing the configuration used in the NASA study, almost all brands, including Bemer, point to the NASA study as evidence of effective therapy.

We feel that’s extremely disingenuous, especially considering consumers can get a PEMF product that is just like the one used in the NASA study.

With an adjustable intensity going up to 3 Gauss and 1-25 Hz, the HealthyLine Platinum Mat is the only product that can honestly say it offers the exact same square wave used in the NASA study.

For all others, the NASA study being used in their marketing is similar to a magic trick’s theatrics that are merely distracting you from what the magician is really offering you.

Isn’t Bemer Connected To Its Own NASA Study?

Yes and no.

NASA’s agreement listing shows hundreds of entities they’ve collaborated with on projects, and Bemer is one of those.

In row 595, you’ll find that Bemer paid more than $10k for this connection.

Bemer’s website has a link to the NASA agreement.

It is displayed by Bemer as if there was an official joint research project.

Whatever the contractual payment was for, it expired on March 3, 2020.

No further information can be found on whether the research took place, what it entailed, what it resulted in, etc..

Bemer’s PEMF

The Bemer mat uses a PEMF (pulsed electro-magnetic field) single therapy that is defined by its unique structure.

The configuration is very important and this is what it means.

Bemer’s configuration is defined by a specific waveform, frequency and intensity.

We will look at each of these separately:

Waveform

Bemer uses a patented waveform.

The waveform’s polarity reverses every two minutes.

It’s a single cascading sine wave pulse train.

It repeats 33 times per second, and is controlled by Bemer’s B.box controller.

Scientific data suggests that polarity reversal is most effective.

Almost all PEMF devices utilize this measure in their own waveform configurations.

Studies on PEMF using a cascading sine wave pulse train are totally reliant upon Bemer’s own studies, which have, of course, found it to be an effective configuration.

Independent research has almost always found that 1-10 Gauss, 1-30 Hz square waves or sine waves yield the most positive results.

Frequency

There are two frequency settings with Bemer PEMF – 33 Hz and 10 Hz.

Bemer uses a sine wave pulse train waveform delivering 40 sine waves per second.

They gradually increase the amplitude and frequency.

There are 1,200 pulses per second in the 33 Hz mode.

The sleep setting enables the user to run the device at 10 Hz, which is a longer, larger waveform.

Intensity

Bemer operates at various intensity ranges – 0.1 to 1.5 Gauss, which is 3.5 to 35 microTelsa.

The number is based on how many point applicators are plugged into your box controller.

The basic model point applicators are up to 100 microTelsa a piece.

Meanwhile, plus signal offers 150 microTelsa.

PEMF Efficiency Data

For most PEMF buyers, the key question is what waveform, intensity, and frequency is actually most effective?

Each PEMF therapy brand is touting that theirs is the best.

PubMed has hundreds of case studies, research papers, and studies on the subject to help find the truth.

Ironically, most PEMF brands have chosen not to reference these independent studies.

We will, therefore, break down all the information for you as part of this Bemer mat review.

If you know what the unbiased scientific data says, it will help you understand  the specs that PEMF therapy brands present.

It will also help you to evaluate your options, so you can select the best product for your needs.

How Do I Recognize the Best PEMF Therapy?

The PubMed research on PEMF therapies is very exhaustive.

However, the data specify one particular brand as ‘the best.’

The consumer must read between the lines to select their own ideal product.

The research suggests that the most ideal wave is a sine wave.

The suggested best intensity is between 1-10 Gauss.

The best frequency is between 1-30 Hz.

These are the specs that have repeatedly produced the most positive testing results across the body of existing studies.

Unfortunately, these numbers aren’t an exact match with Bemer’s configuration.

The product that most resembles the data is the HealthyLine Platinum mat, which offers a regular sine wave, 1-25 Hz frequency, and 3 Gauss variable intensity.

It is important to remember that Bemer’s configuration is a cascading sine wave pulse train, 33 or 10 Hz, and only goes up to a 1.5 Gauss intensity.

Look to The Earth’s Frequency to Determine the Most Natural PEMF

If you want the most natural PEMF therapy waveform, intensity, and frequency, then the best gauge is the earth itself.

Science has proven that every cell within the human body is a specialized conductor of electricity.

The nervous system sends its critical signals to make your body think, feel and move.

For example, cardiac cells generate electrical currents to make your heart muscle contract in rhythm.

Illness will result, if this vital current is broken or interrupted anywhere in your body.

Just as our body has its own electromagnetic field, the earth also has a powerful magnetic field.

In the body, the electromagnetic field varies, but studies indicate that the range is usually 0-30 Hz.

Likewise, the earth’s magnetic field also varies.

Many mistakenly think that earth has a sinusoidal wave associated with its frequency.

This is incorrect.

The earths’s fundamental resonance frequency, also called Schumann Frequency, is about 7.83 Hz, and the frequency and waveform resonate.

In other words, it’s a relatively lower frequency and a larger waveform that’s constantly changing.

Science demands a correlation between the earth and the human body.

This means that the most natural PEMF would align with the earth’s 7.83Hz Schumann Frequency.

We recommend staying close to this number with any PEMF product, if you want the most natural therapy.

As far as intensity goes, the magnetic field of earth is not that strong.

The range is 0.3-0.6 Gauss, or 30-60 microTelsa.

We again correlate this to PEMF products, and the suggested 0-30 Hz frequency range is recommended for the most natural therapy.

The rule of thumb for PEMF intensity is less is more.

The PubMed data shows that high intensities do not produce better or more plentiful results.

1-10 Gauss is suggested as the most effective intensity range.

What To Consider With PEMF?

There has been considerable discussion of frequency, intensity, and wavelength, because they are the main distinguishing specs of all PEMF products.

Those factors have a huge impact on your product selection.

However, there are a few more things to consider when selecting the best PEMF product.

You should always consult your primary doctor before beginning PEMF therapy.

Medical experts warn that certain groups, including pregnant women and cardiac patients with pacemakers, should not use PEMF.

We specifically looked at Bemer’s website for this warning and didn’t find it.

Timing is a major consideration.

Research suggests that PEMF is most beneficial when it is implemented once per day as a 20-minute session.

While there’s nothing to suggest that longer and more frequent sessions are harmful, the maximum benefit can be achieved in just a single 20-minute session per day.

There is no evidence to suggest that longer, more frequent sessions improve benefits.

Bemer Mat Controller

Bemer’s controller is the star of the show.

By comparison, it’s a more intricate controller than its competitors.

The company’s design focus is on delivering an aesthetically appealing and sleek product that fits right in with the smartphones, tablets, and PCs on your desk.

It is like selecting a trim level on a vehicle.

The base model gets you the same place as the model with luxurious trim.

It, therefore, boils down to what you want to look at along the ride and whether you want to pay for function alone or stylish function.

Bemer’s Red Light Therapy Applicator

If you select the Pro package, you’ll also get a phototherapy tool.

Bemer calls it the B.light. This is not a PEMF application.

It is a red-light therapy applicator that’s used separately from the mat.

This phototherapy tool isn’t available for purchase as a separate accessory.

It only comes in the Pro Set package.

Therapies You Won’t Get from Bemer

Bemer’s mat is PEMF only.

If you look through our reviews of competing products, you’ll find other PEMF device offerings that include other therapies in their models.

The Bemer mat doesn’t include therapies like negative ions, crystal therapy, or far infrared therapy.

The Value Of Combining Far Infrared Therapy With PEMF

We recommend comparing the value of PEMF mats with those without far infrared therapy.

Bemer’s mat does not include far infrared therapy.

You’ll notice that many PEMF applications are starting to integrate far infrared therapy into their PEMF devices. Why? Research indicates that this combination may bolster its value and maximize therapeutic benefits for the consumer. How?

PEMF is designed to improve the cell’s ability to heal itself. It does this by raising the energy levels within the cell. You may find this alone is enough help to achieve whatever goal you’ve set. However, far infrared technology has the potential to make the process more efficient and expansive.

Far infrared therapy is designed to support PEMF’s cause. It increases the body’s blood flow. With more blood flow, the areas receiving PEMF treatment have a better supply and demand for the nutrients that support your healing process. Of course, the after effects are then transported through the rest of your body by a more efficient blood supply.

Compare What You Get with Bemer Classic Vs. Pro

Bemer offers two main product packages:

  • Bemer Pro
  • Bemer Classic

They also offer a handful of accessories that are sold separately, including:

  • Fixing strap
  • B.grip handle
  • Power supply unit
  • Car adapter
  • B.scan signal tester
  • Wall mount
  • Rechargeable battery

Either of the two kits will provide everything you need to get started with PEMF therapy.

Of course, you can always purchase the flagship product, the B.box, and a single applicator separately.

From a financial standpoint, though, it’s a very minor savings.

The controller for the Pro mat set and the classic mat set appear to have the identical function.

The difference is only apparent in the control’s interface.

The difference in the mats is material.

The Pro kit mat is constructed from the more resilient Alcantara, which also makes it more stain-resistant.

What’s the Pricing Models For Bemer Pro Vs Classic?

When compared to similar products, Bemer’s packages are on the higher side of the spectrum.

Why are they so high? We can’t say it is quality.

Unfortunately, skyrocketing prices are often a side effect of multi-level marketed services and products.

While this marketing strategy is great in bringing a larger sales force behind a good or service, the sales process itself also puts more hands in the feeding pot.

More people need a cut (whether small or large) of the profit.

This means a higher price for the consumer.

Inflation is avoided by limiting the layers between a business and the end consumer.

As a multi-level marketed product, Bemer’s mats suffer in consumer affordability.

Be careful if you turn to eBay, Amazon, and other third-party entities selling used and new PEMF mats online.

Prices can be more affordable, but you don’t want to end up with an unreliable knockoff.

It should come with a seller warranty and should be sold by a trustworthy source.

Here’s a breakdown of the prices you can expect direct from Bemer:

Bemer Pro Kit – $5,990

  • Box Professional mat controller
  • Body Pro mat
  • Pro pad to wear for localized spots and travel
  • Spot applicator and fixing strap

Bemer Markings

You should look carefully at certifications, distribution and production markings when buying any medical product.

Does Bemer Have A MDC Certification?

Bemer products have an MDC marking. MDC is an independent regulatory consulting firm.

Companies bringing medical products to market for public use, pay them to review their products and certify that they’re safe to use.

The company helps medical product launchers to clear a path to retail shelves and to gain consumer trust.

While a valuable marking, keep in mind that MDC is paid for by the product’s parent company.

Does Bemer Have A CE Stamp of Approval?

Bemer also has a CE marking from the EU.

This means that it falls within the European Conformity for safe use.

Specifically, Bemer complies with European standard ISO 13485, which is the safety and quality standard for general medical devices.

However, like the fact MDC’s markings are the result of the product’s owner directly paying for a stamp of approval, CE markings also have a major flaw.

Did you know that any product can put a CE marking on their product, without it ever even being tested or vetted independently?

The CE marketing is a self-declaration.

It’s merely signals that the company itself has declared that their product falls within the EU regulatory guidelines, not that it’s been tested as such.

CE distinguishes self-declarations from actual testing with a separate marking.

If the product just has a CE, then it hasn’t been certified for tested.

Tested products receive a CE certification number that’s stamped next to the CE mark.

The number signals the date the product was reviewed and tested.

Bemer Mats Distribution And Manufacturing

The Bemer Group is headquartered in Liechtenstein,  and the mats and signal generators are also manufactured there.

Distribution primarily follows the multi-level marketing structure.

Once you purchase a mat, you can become a distributor yourself for a surcharge.

You will use a separate login on Bemer’s website for your distribution role.

Your objective is to market and sell Bemer products to your friends, family, and acquaitances, in exchange for a sales commission.

However, the MLM structure doesn’t just split the sale’s profit between Bemer and the active distributor (you) in a sale.

Each level of distributor above you receives a percentage of each sale.

Assume that you were brought to Bemer by distributor Joe, who was brought in by distributor Sue, who was brought it by distributor Jim, etc..

After you make your first sale as a distributor, all those people above you each get a portion of that one sale.

This is the reason why MLM products have such a high-end inflated price tag.

It’s a consideration if you’re on a budget for your PEMF device, especially if your plan is to pay for it, or offset the cost by becoming a distributor.

The more commissions coming out, the less your portion will be in a sale.

Distribution channels to purchase a mat, however, should be relatively easy with so many distributors in the game.

In most cases, you’ll simply be directed to a subpage at Bemer Group’s website that gives the distributor credit in the sale.

You can also start from scratch by going directly to Bemer Group’s homepage to purchase your product(s.)

Bemer Group does not currently have any brick and mortar retail stores.

However, you can check third party online stores, such as Amazon and eBay for used and new mats.

Just don’t forget your due diligence and buyer protections, if you take the latter route.

Do Bemer Products Have A Warranty and Other Consumer Protections?

At a minimum of over $4,000 for a new basic kit, you should be concerned with Bemer’s return policy, warranty and guarantees.

We always recommend taking the time to thoroughly understand all terms and conditions, before paying for any product, especially one this costly.

If you have any doubt, concern, or are confused, always reach out to a live customer service representative for an explanation.

Don’t be afraid to continue asking until you are satisfied.

This is the best method to get a full picture of the guarantees associated with your purchase.

Bemer’s full terms and conditions are listed at the bottom of their website.

Here are some of the highlights you should pay close attention to:

  • Most registered Bemer products come with three-year warranty, including the B.box controller and mat. The mat is a simple design without much expense or risk, aside from losing it. Since the controller is the most costly and complex part to replace, it’s good to know that you have at least three years of not worrying about losing your investment to a malfunction.
  • There are better control warranties than Bemer offers. While many PEMF systems have a very limited, if any, warranty on the controller because of its high cost, the Healthy Wave Multi-Wave beats Bemer’s warranty. At Healthy Wave, you get a five-year warranty on your control and a two-year warranty on your mat.
  • Bemer’s B.Light and battery have a six month warranty.
  • The Pro and Classic kits both have a 30-day guarantee. You will receive a full refund, if you are dissatisfied. However, this guarantee is only valid if your purchase is made directly from Bemer Group’s website.
  • Products purchased from Bemer’s official website have a partial and provisional 30-day money back guarantee IF certain conditions are met, including the product being in its original packaging, all items in the original package are included and are undamaged, you have a copy of the invoice and the request is made within 30 days. A 10 percent restocking fee and the cost of shipping and handling will be deducted from the refund.
  • Purchases made through any MLM distributor, which Bemer names as Independent Bemer Distributors (IBDs,) are considered vendor, not direct, purchases. The fine print states that these buyers will not receive the same 30-day money back guarantee, as customers purchasing directly from Bemer’s private website.
  • Buyers who choose to become IBDs within 30 days of their own purchase, automatically forfeit their 30-day money back guarantee on their own purchase.
  • Mats that are purchased from an IBD, instead of Bemer Group’s website, are valid for a warranty. However, unlike the automatic warranty submission from purchasing directly from the Bemer website, IBD-sourced purchases will require the buyer to take a second step. You’ll need to register the product for a valid warranty at Bemer’s website.

Buying Bemer Today? Our Final Recommendations

If you’ve compared Bemer to other PEMF products and decided that the Bemer mat is the right product for you, we encourage you to source your product well with comprehensive due diligence measures.

Is there a nearby health center or spa that’s using Bemer products?

If so, it might be a worthwhile investment to test the product before buying.

Talk with your healthcare provider about your pre-existing conditions and whether there are any personalized recommendations on PEMF specs and therapy features.

IBD distributors and independent online distributors are everywhere.

You’re likely to even find some local brick and mortar locations, such as wellness centers and vitamin stores, that are independently selling Bemer products.

We encourage you to collect as much information as you can about who you’re buying from and ensure that it’s a trustworthy source.

This is especially important, if you’re purchasing secondhand from Amazon or another third party online retailer.

Look at your customer protections.

For example, a purchase from Craigslist will not come with the same protection as from eBay.

How much support will you get before and after the sale?

Is the distributor qualified to answer technical and spec questions on the Bemer product lineup?

Overall, we recommend that buyers strongly consider going directly to the source – Bemer Group’s official website – for their purchases.

This avoids problems and actions that void your warranty.

You also won’t need to take separate action for your mat warranty.

If you fall in love with the product or want to offset its cost by becoming a distributor, then you avoid becoming the tail end of a chain within an already massive distributor network.
